Paul Treu Bio

Paul-Treu---bioPaul Treu is the current coach of the victorious Springbok Sevens team and has notched up numerous memorable victories in the International Rugby Board's World Sevens Series. Under Treu's guidance, South Africa has won IRB tournaments in Dubai (twice), George, Singapore, Adelaide (twice), Paris, London and invitational tournaments in Singapore and Amsterdam, as well as being crowned World 7's Series Champions for the first time in 2009 since 1999.

The former school teacher, who holds a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology, represented South Africa as a player in 24 IRB tournaments, including the World Cup Sevens in 2001 before a knee injury ended his international career in 2002, scoring 70 tries in the process. He started his international coaching career in 2004. Before that, Treu also excelled in fifteens, playing at Super 12 level as well as being a Currie Cup stalwart for the SWD Eagles and Eastern Province.

Paul is highly regarded on the international Sevens Circuit and well respected for his work ethic, professional approach towards the Sevens code and his innovative coaching methods. His coaching structures in South Africa have been hailed as the cornerstone of the success of the Springbok Sevens team in recent years.

A true people's person, who is renowned for his humility, Paul has won numerous awards, including Men's Health Best Man Award for Sport in 2009, plus the 2009 SAB Sports Journalist of the Year Award for "Most Media Friendly Sports Personality"

Paul currently resides is the Cape with his wife Jodie and two-year old daughter, Schyler.

Hi Alison, good to hear from you. Thanks for looking after our players so well in Edinburgh. Kyle is still nursing his hamstring injury, but will hopefully recover in time to lead the team at the Commonwealth Games. I am in Australia till next week.
