Welcome to 7 Questions on paultreusevens.com brought to you by Guy McDonald in association with SA Rugby. Today we're getting to know Paul Treu a little better, finding out more about the man himself and hopefully shedding some light on what it takes to be such a great man.
- Paul, we're fast approaching the IRB Sevens Tournament in Dubai and then a week later its George Sevens, how much rest do you actually get with such an intense schedule of tournaments?
On tour I average about four hours and in-between tournaments it's even less.
- Do you ever really relax or is your mind always busy?
I don't really have much time to relax and to be honest, I get board if I am not working on Sevens. Free time is normally reserved for my family because of all the travelling during the year.
- Which is your favourite tournament and why?
Definitely Hong Kong. Maybe it's because we've never won it since we started to play there in 1993.
- You lead a very disciplined life and obviously need to set the bar for your players but are there ever times when you're on tour and you just wish you could stay in one place, park off in your swimsuit, with your feet up and just do nothing?
Sometimes yes, especially when you see all the people having fun and just enjoying themselves. I have been travelling like this for more than ten years now and I will keep doing it for as long as my family allows it.
- Maintaining a healthy diet is obviously critical to your team's success. Are you also on their eating plan when on tour or are you allowed extra dessert?
I think you get used to eating healthy when you are in a professional setup like ours, but baked cheesecake is my weakness.
- At Bon Fromage, we learnt that you enjoy their French toast. Have you any other favourite foods?
It will have to be Thai Green Curry.
- What are you currently reading?
I am always in-between books and have a few I haven't finished. In a bookstore, I normally head straight to the business section.
- Finally, please finish the sentence for us: I can't go a day without.....?
5 minutes me-time in the mornings with a cup of coffee.
