Springbok Sevens coach, Paul Treu will finalise his preparation plans for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi after his meeting tomorrow with the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) in Johannesburg.

South Africa's best result in three previous Commonwealth Games attempts is a bronze medal, won in Manchester in 2002.

Earlier today the International Rugby Board named a strong line-up of nations, to be led by newly-crowned IRB Sevens World Series champions Samoa, to compete in the Rugby Sevens tournament at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi this October.

Samoa will be joined by South Africa, reigning Commonwealth Games Rugby Sevens champions New Zealand, IRB Sevens World Cup winners Wales, hosts India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, England, Scotland, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Canada and Guyana in the 16-team tournament to be held on 11-12 October.

"I'm hoping to finalise all our plans after tomorrow's meeting. Our discussion will mainly focus around assistance for the SA Sevens team before our departure to Delhi. Team South Africa will be announced in July and it is therefore vital for the Springbok Sevens management to finalise our preparations well before then. The Commonwealth Games has always been one of our main targets for the season and it is important that we get our planning spot on," explained Treu.

The Springbok Sevens squad is enjoying a break at the moment after a difficult World Series campaign and they are set to assemble on 5 July again to resume training for the Commonwealth Games.

Rugby Sevens was introduced to the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998. The Rugby Sevens final at the Commonwealth Games 2006 in Melbourne was a record crowd for a seven-a-side format with 150 000 attending the three competition days.

Sixteen teams, including the host nation, will compete in Delhi for the Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Following Delhi, the next Commonwealth Games will be in Glasgow in 2014.
