Iam actually on leave as I am writing this article, but I just feel like writing whenever something interesting comes up.
A Forgotten PrincipleI had two very interesting discussions with two very astute businessmen the past week hence me writing this very interesting article. So why am I talking about business when my business is sport? Because we are number one in the world and something extraordinary will have to happen for us to stay at the top.
It is that time of the year when we stop and reflect on what has happened and more importantly what has been achieved over the past sporting season and for the business world, the financial year. This is when we say I should've... I could've or if only I had done it a bit differently. For sporting teams we take an off-season break, allowing managers and coaches the opportunity to have a rest and give some thought to the past season performances and any learning's that have come out of it . In business we do not have that luxury........there is no end of season break, no end of the season tour. In fact, the last couple of months of the past financial year have a major effect on the results and consequences of the first quarter of the new financial year.
For many South African supporters all eyes will be on our team trying to win our first IRB Sevens World Series title since its inception in 1999. Ten years is a long time to wait and coming so close to realizing every Sevens player’s dream is an amazing achievement in itself. By having a 28-point lead over our closest rival, slipping up in the last two tournaments will not be an option.
The fans will tell you that if you really get board at the Hong Kong sevens rugby tournament .........you can go watch the rugby. It is a remarkable tournament promoted and marketed to perfection.
